Despite a lot of knowledge and dedication, she struggled to nurse her baby . An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) was able to help Jennie successfully breastfeed her son. Due to this experience, Jennie grew an intense desire to help other moms and babies reach their breastfeeding goals. After she finished her PhD, Jennie completed a rigorous course of didactic and clinical training through the University of California, San Diego Lactation Consultant Training Program, and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2009. Jennie is also a breastfeeding researcher and holds an appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Research Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. Jennie and her husband have 4 rambunctious children. Growing up, her mom worked in the newborn nursery, and that’s exactly where Melanie’s heart led her. She spent 20 years working as a labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn nursery RN, supporting families through some of their most meaningful moments. Along the way, she raised two wonderful daughters and breastfed them both for over a year, which sparked an even deeper connection to supporting moms. That passion led her to become a La Leche League Leader and later an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), helping other moms feel confident and supported in their feeding journeys. In the last few years, Melanie and her husband of 11 years hit the road in a fifth wheel, traveling full-time. They moved from Florida to Colorado—where Melanie got to assist with home births at Mountain Miracles—and eventually landed in Arizona, where they’ve been for the past three years. When she’s not helping families, you’ll find her reading, doing embroidery or macramé, hiking, or learning to garden in the Arizona desert.
